A Common Voice exists to promote networking and empowerment to families of children with challenging emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health needs.
The purpose of A Common Voice is to:
- Focus attention on the unique needs of children, with emotional and behavioral needs, and their families
- Promote Parent-to-Parent support and networking
- Engage in advocacy regarding services needed by children and their families
- Increase the involvement of Parents, of change agents, in the child serving systems

Executive Director
Sherry Penn Lyons, a Puyallup native, is the Executive Director of A Common Voice; leading the Parent driven organization. Prior to the role of Executive Director, Sherry served as Assistant Director from 2000-2011. She was introduced to A CommonVoice in 1998 through Catholic Community (Wrap Around) Services as a Parent having difficulty raising a child with significant mental health/ behavioral needs. Sherry began working as a “Parent Partner” with A Common Voice in 1999. She was the first Parent Advocate at Child Study & Treatment Center from 1999-2000 and continues as an alumni member of the Clip Parent Steering Committee. She is a WA State Certified Peer Counselor. Sherry's favorite attribute is that she is a Treasurer Hunter and has a Certificate in Hopeology. Sherry is a Parent of 4, Grandmother of 4.
